British “Art-Rock” band that started in the early 1970s, and was a propellant of the “Glam” genre, that also counted names like David Bowie, Elton John and The Sweet. Heavily influenced by fashion and 70s lifestyle the band became trendsetters in several ways.

Kraftwerk

German electronic group from Düsseldorf. Kraftwerk is unquestionably one of the most influential groups on the electronic music scene ever. From the progressive (prog) rock start to the hugely influential sequenced works in the mid 70's, that played a definite role in the development of the Detroit House Scene.

The British prog-band Yes is probably the closest thing you'll get to classical "prog-rock", along with colleagues - and competitors - Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
